Infection Preventionist Nurse

Key Responsibilities:
  • Develop and maintain infection prevention and control policies, procedures, and protocols in accordance with regulatory requirements, evidence-based guidelines, and best practices.
  • Conduct regular surveillance of healthcare-associated infections (HAIs), including monitoring trends, analyzing data, and identifying areas for improvement.
  • Collaborate with the interdisciplinary team to investigate and manage outbreaks of infectious diseases, implementing appropriate control measures and reporting requirements.
  • Provide education and training to healthcare personnel on infection prevention practices, including hand hygiene, personal protective equipment (PPE) use, isolation precautions, and environmental cleaning.
  • Monitor compliance with infection prevention protocols through audits, observations, and feedback, and develop corrective action plans as needed.
  • Participate in infection control rounds, quality improvement initiatives, and regulatory inspections, providing expertise and guidance on infection prevention practices.
  • Serve as a resource for staff, residents, and families regarding infection prevention and control measures, addressing questions, concerns, and providing timely information.
  • Collaborate with occupational health and employee health services to ensure compliance with immunization requirements, health screenings, and post-exposure management protocols.
  • Stay abreast of current evidence-based practices, guidelines, and regulations related to infection prevention and control, attending relevant conferences and training programs as needed.
  • Maintain accurate and thorough documentation of infection prevention activities, including surveillance data, interventions, and outcomes, in accordance with regulatory standards.
Qualifications:
  • Valid Registered Nurse (RN) or LPN license in the state of practice.
  • Certification in infection control (e.g., Certification in Infection Control, CIC) highly desirable.
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years of clinical nursing experience, with previous experience in infection prevention and control preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of infectious diseases, epidemiology, and principles of infection prevention and control.
  • Excellent communication, presentation, and interpersonal skills, with the ability to educate and engage diverse audiences.
  • Analytical skills and attention to detail for data collection, analysis, and interpretation.
  • Ability to collaborate effectively with interdisciplinary team members, administrators, and external stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and electronic health records (EHR) systems.
  • Commitment to continuous learning, professional development, and adherence to ethical standards.
