Pension Benefit Analyst

This position is with a reputable and established Healthcare Insurance and Pension Provider in Glendale CA. The Pension Benefit Analyst will help clients/participants with their Pension Plans, process payments, process applications, retirement benefits assistance, death benefits, vesting and compliance. You must have Pension Benefit experience and knowledge. This is a "high call volume" position, and you will be assisting customers over the phone and via email all day.

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Correspond with Client/Participants, third parties, consultants, vendors, as needed.
  • Counsel Client/Participants regarding retirement benefits, death benefits, vesting, etc. in person, via telephone, and via mail or facsimile
  • Implement benefit modifications, determined by the Board of Directors and/or Benefits Committee or as mandated by law
  • Process death benefits relative to the death of Pension holders, including notification and payment or recovery
  • Calculate retirement benefits and death benefits.
  • Calculate overpayments or underpayments for a variety of reasons, including audits by the Employer Compliance Department
  • Approve credits and process debits for the Employer Compliance Department
  • Locate beneficiaries, process documents, and notify of benefits for entitlement to pre-retirement death benefits
  • Work with consultants to ensure compliance with Trust Agreement and with Federal and State Laws
  • Process joinders and subpoenas relative to the dissolution of marriage for Participants
  • Process death benefit application materials relating to pre-retirement death benefits and follow-up with any pending items
  • Determine eligibility for Certified Retiree Health Fund Pension coverage
  • Calculate adjustments to pension benefits, due to re-employment, audit, Qualified Domestic Relations Orders, etc.
  • Prepare annual statements
  • Prepare and process retirement application and benefit estimate requests
  • Review power of attorney documents and determine acceptability as an authorized third party
  • Verify income and contribution amounts
  • Process marriage certificate and divorce decrees
  • Determine vested status of Participants
  • Process requests for Electronic Funds Transfer and ACH reject and return reports
  • Process international wire transfer requests
  • Determine monthly ending pension awards
  • Approve SSN merges and changes, done by IT and Data Processing departments
  • Calculate and process estate payments
  • Comply with IRS levies as necessary
  • Process monthly pension payables, including the balance of cash requirements
  • Answer e-mail messages for Pension Benefits Department
  • Prepare claim denials and draft appeal memos for the Benefits Committee

QUALIFIED DOMESTIC RELATIONS ORDERS
  • Review, analyze and process Qualified Domestic Relations Orders and Domestic Relations Orders
  • Make determination of qualified status of Domestic Relations Orders.

TRAINING
  • Train junior team members in processes and individual tasks relating to process.
  • Cross train with team in departmental tasks.

EDUCATIONAL/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
  • Bachelor’s Degree preferred, Associate Degree Required with a concentration in any of the following fields: Mathematics, Economics, Finance, Business or related field.
  • Experience in pension benefits administration or finance required
