HR Assistant on a Flower Farm (Agriculture/Nursery)
Join our great HR team as an HR Assistant to support the daily operations of our fast-paced flower nursery. You will play a crucial role in the full employee lifecycle for both seasonal and permanent field personnel, including recruiting, onboarding, payroll processing, and compliance.
Key Responsibilities
- Recruitment & Onboarding: Assist with recruiting field personnel, conducting new hire orientations (often in both English and Spanish), and ensuring all onboarding documentation (I-9s, tax forms) is completed accurately.
- Seasonal Support: Assist in managing the seasonal workforce, including proper documentation, contract management, and adherence to specialized agricultural labor regulations. Peak seasons/holidays require additional hours to be worked on Saturday mornings.
- Payroll & Records Management: Maintain accurate digital personnel files, manage time tracking for field staff, monitor attendance/absenteeism, and documentation.
- Compliance: Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local labor laws, including OSHA, field sanitation standards, and accurate employee file audits.
- Employee Relations: Act as a front-line point of contact for employee inquiries regarding payroll, benefits, or company policies.
- Administrative Support: Process worker’s compensation claims, assist with benefits enrollment, and support employee engagement activities, such as recognition events.
Qualifications & Skills
- Languages: Fluent English and Spanish
- Experience: At least 1-2 years of experience in HR, administrative support, or a fast-paced environment. Experience in the agriculture industry is preferred!
- Tech Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and experienced with HRIS or ATS systems.
- Skills: Strong attention to detail (for compliance), excellent communication skills, and the ability to work under pressure.
- Education: High School Diploma or GED required; associate's degree in human resources or business is a plus.
Working Conditions
- This is an office-based role, but you may occasionally work in the nursery/field environment to assist with employee relations activities.
- Fast-paced environment requires the ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously, especially during peak planting/harvest seasons.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 25 lbs. (files, office supplies).
- Must be able to sit for long periods, with occasional walking on uneven surfaces in the nursery
